Only Ontario residents will have to pay the Provincial Sales Tax when ordering from our website. If you do not live in the province of Ontario, you do not have to pay taxes.

  9. What are VCDs? Are they video tapes or DVDs?

VCDs are not video tapes. They are not DVDs either. VCDs are Video Compact Discs with audio and video stored on a Compact Disc.
VCDs are encoded using MPEG-1. The video is MPEG-1 and the audio is MPEG-1 layer 3 stereo (also known as MP3). A VCD can contain a maximum of 74 minutes (650 MB) of audio and video. Many VCDs have left audio and right audio channels encoded separately in order to record both Mandarin and Cantonese audio on the same disc. On Karaoke discs, one audio channel is used for the original soundtrack and the other audio channel is used for Karaoke.

  10. How do I play VCDs? Does my DVD player play VCDs?

Method 1: You can play VCDs on a standalone VCD player. This is the most recommended method of playing VCDs. Standalone VCD players can play VCDs perfectly.

Method 2: You can play VCDs on a standalone DVD player that is compatible with VCDs. Please make sure that your DVD player is VCD compatible. You can find this information in your user manual. If you unsure whether your DVD player is VCD compatible, please e-mail us. We can also find reviews on most of the DVD players for sale in America and Europe.

Method 3: You can play VCDs on a computer equipped with a software VCD player. We do not recommend you doing this because some computer configurations may cause your system to freeze while playing VCDs. If the VCD does not contain a .dat file, you cannot watch it on a computer. Different DVD-ROM drives and CD-ROM drives behave differently when playing VCDs.

  11. What is the region code for the DVDs listed on the OV Website? How do I play PAL DVDs?

All DVDs are in Region All format unless otherwise specified. All DVDs that do not have NTSC or PAL specified are PAL formatted DVDs. Please note that DVD players sold in the US and Canada usually play only Region 1 and Region All NTSC DVD discs.
For US and Canadian customers, Region All PAL DVDs can only be played on DVD players that have a "PAL/NTSC" button that allows you to switch between PAL and NTSC outputs manually. Region 6 DVDs can only be played on a computer or on a Region Free DVD player. If you have a computer with a DVD-ROM drive, you can play any DVD. If your computer's video card has a TV-out connection, you can output your computer signal to the TV and enjoy all DVDs on your TV.
For customers who do not have the proper equipment to watch PAL DVDs or Region 6 DVDs, please order the VCD version the title.

  12. Why are there significantly less number of DVD discs compared to the VCD version of the same TV Series?

DVDs have much higher capacity compared to VCDs. A VCD can contain a maximum of 1.3 hours of audio and video whereas a DVD can contain 2 to 8 hours of audio and video on a single disc. Therefore, only a few DVD discs are required to store the entire TV Series. DVD TV Series usually have better quality compared to VCD TV Series.

  13. Are there any special discounts for large volume purchases?

Special discounts are available when you order large volumes of VCDs from us. Because the price for different kinds of VCDs vary, we ask that you indicate to us what kind of VCDs and how much you would like to order in large volumes when you e-mail us. The price we quote you for large volume orders do not include shipping charges. Shipping charges will depend on where you want us to deliver your order, how fast you need them, and how many items you order.
